POOR APPRECIATION MAKES EMPLOYEES LEAVE

The real reason people quit their job and look for a new one is that they feel underappreciated. In surveys by the American Psychological Association, half of all employees who said they did not feel valued at work also said they intend to look for a new job in the next year.Overall, the research showed that employees who do feel valued are more likely to have better physical and mental health and higher levels of engagement, satisfaction and motivation. The study was based on surveys of more than 1,700 full and part-time employees in the USA.More than 90 per cent of workers who reported feeling valued said they were motivated to do their best at work, and 88 per cent reported feeling engaged, the study found. That compared with just 33 per cent and 38 per cent, respectively, of those who don't feel respected in the office.According to the study, overall 21 per cent of working Americans do not feel valued by their employers.A variety of factors is to blame — those surveyed cited having fewer opportunities for involvement in workplace decision-making, being dissatisfied with the potential for growth and advancement, having few opportunities to use flexible work arrangements, and feeling they were not receiving adequate compensation and non-monetary rewards. The American Psychological Association honoured a number of businesses at its seventh annual Psychologically Healthy Workplace Awards ceremony in Washington, D.C., and 78 per cent of the employees of the winning companies said they would recommend their organisation to others as a good place to work."Successful organisations have learned that high performance and sustainable results require attention to the relationships among employee, organisation, customer and community," David Ballard, head of the APA's Psychologically Healthy Workplace Programme, said. — ANI- (Courtesy The Tribune)
The same kind of survey should be conducted on postal employees particularly INSPECTOR cadre who are leaving their job for better avenues and pay scale. Had there been justice to this discriminated cadre this would not have been the position and the department may have placed at a better position in the eyes of public. Autocracy as is  the position in some circles is the other reason for leaving the department particularly by direct IPs. As far as GP issue is concerned, we have got justice from Hon’ble CAT and we will definitely get GP at par with other inspectors. For this no need to worry. We have to think for others issues.

GS VISIT SHOULD BE RESULT ORIENTED

I am grateful for the efforts everyone is putting on the IP GP issue. I was besieged when I received a call from our GS and our President updating me on the same. I immediately called Sh. Roop Chand Ex-GS and asked for support, he assured me to pursue the IP issue in Directorate by visiting there off and on. I know new GS and ex-GS have to put a lot of extra time, the result thereof will definitely pay off to success. At the same time I have learned of a situation for that, I am seriously concerned and bring to the kind notice of all. It is my understanding that nobody knows the fate of IPGP file that is our main issue. Though new GS has visited Directorate but no news about the fate and whereabouts of the file has emerged. There was perhaps a U-turn on merger issue as rightly sited on blog by CS Odisha. I will say that we could not distinguish between two issues, one GP issue another cadre restructuring. The merger of IP/ASP was a part of cadre review and GP issue was nothing to do with this. In fact, if there needs to be, two letters should go to the directorate first one GP issue about which we should write and has been written “Inspector Posts should be granted Grade Pay of Rs. 4600/- with effect from 01/01/2006 at par with Inspectors of CBDT / CBEC in tune with directions of the Hon’ble CAT, Ernakulam Bench” and there should be no mention of denying or accepting merger. Second resolution should be with reference to directorate letter no. 01/01/2001-SR dated 14/11/2011 that is in fact with reference to cadre restructuring as demanded by Directorate in view of cadre review meeting. In this proposal there was no harm to accept the conditional merger proposal wherein there should precondition “ The association is not against the merger of IP/ASP subject to the condition that under cadre review and consequent upon merger of IP/ASPs promotion span of IPs to PSS Group “B” should be 8-10 years from the present 25-27 years”. This was a part of second proposal formulated by us but was unfortunately turned down by the house. Sh. Ajith Kurian and Sh. B.B Mohanty know it better. Any way, now the time has come when New GS and President should take up IP GP issue with Hon’ble Minister and speak of injustice at every platform. The visit to Directorate should be result oriented other wise take legal recourse the only way out with us.
